Eight Miami Springs girls and their Miami Springs coaches are heading to the Southern Regionals and are seeking your help.  Here’s their message:

The girls are members of the Coral Gables Storm Black 2001 Girls Soccer Team and are coached by Miami Springs’ Gio Delarosa and Louie Cimino with Team Manager Javier Rodriguez.  The team has participated in the Florida State Premier League and various high-level showcase tournaments throughout the country. On May 19, 2019, the team won the 2019 FYSA Florida State Cup Championship. The team has now been invited to represent Florida in the 2019 Southern Regional Championships held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana from June 20th through June 27th.  This dedicated and motivated group of girls has always set their sights high and their ultimate goal is to win the Regional Championship to have a chance to play for the National Championship in Kansas in July.

There are 8 girls on this team that currently live in Miami Springs that started their soccer careers at MSVG Soccer Club in the In-House program. Four of them are playing for Miami Springs Senior High School. There in another girl that played for MSVG Soccer Club in the past as well. This team will actually play under MSVG Soccer Club next year.

The catalyst for the 2018-2019 soccer season was a result of a loss the team went through back in May of 2018 after losing the 2018 Florida State Cup Championship final to Sunrise.  We should note that the Sunrise team went on to win the National Championship.  The girls trained and worked hard during the summer of 2018 knowing that they could not be denied this season.

The team kicked off this season in August by winning the championship at the Central Brevard Hurricane Classic in Cocoa Beach, Florida.  Two short weeks later, the girls won the championship at the Disney Showcase Qualifier which would place them in the top bracket for the Disney Showcase over the Thanksgiving weekend.  This tournament, in which they went undefeated, is consistently rated as one of the top youth soccer tournaments in the country with hundreds of college coaches in attendance.

The girls also excelled with their respective high school teams whereby seven players made First Team All-County with numerous others making Second and Third Team All County as well.  They have all also shined bright in the classroom.  We have six high school seniors on the team that will be attending college in the Fall.  They will each be going their separate ways to the following schools:  University of Miami, Florida State University, Florida National University, Nova Southeastern University, Lynn University and Davidson College.

The team is soliciting sponsorship to offset some of the cost for Southern Regionals in Baton Rouge, LA. The cost is about $ 1,600.00 per player for airfare and hotel. If you can help, please make checks payable to Coral Gables War Memorial Youth Center Association, which is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization with tax ID# 59-0668477. A W-9 form can be provided after your donation is received. Please contact Louie Cimino (305) 978-4720 with any questions.
