THANK YOU MIAMI SPRINGS!

Your love and compassion for a little boy shined this week.

8 year old Jake Casiano was diagnosed with Leukemia.  Jake is the grandson of former Miami Springs councilwoman, Rosie Buckner.  His parents, Christopher and Cindy Casiano, are Miami Springs residents and members of the Miami-Dade Police Department.

Jake needs blood transfusions as he goes forward with the treatments necessary to battle and win the disease.  A blood drive was immediately put together to help young Jake.  The blood drive was held on Tuesday, June 19th at the Miami-Dade Police Department headquarters where local residents and police officers lined up to help Jake.  But the outpouring of love and support didn’t stop there.

Douglas Orr Plumbing pitched in and held a second blood drive at their offices on Flagler drive on Wednesday, June 20th.  The response was so overwhelming that the blood drive remained open hours after they were scheduled to depart.

Jake’s father, Christopher Casiano posted this on Instagram late Wednesday:

I apologize for not returning text and/or phone calls folks. Let me start by saying that I’m speechless at the out pouring of support from family, friends, and strangers. From my Narcotics Bureau, Special Investigations Division, Midwest District, SRT and LEO family. To one of the largest turn outs for a blood drive ever by @miamidadepd, the outstanding job the oncology ward at @nicklaus4kids has done, to offers of support from celebrity friends like @carnojoe and @billycorben. I’ve spent 15 years of my life dedicated to this community and my Leo family never expecting that one day, they would come to my family’s rescue. Jake is up and walking around without pain. Biopsy came back as expected for a kid in the early stages of ALL Leukemia, and his spine is cancer free. Now starts the long road through 8 months of intensive chemo, and god willing, remission. He should be back home in his own bed tonight. #jakestrong #jakesjourney
