The Town of Medley now has 3 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus COVID-19.  Miami Springs remains with just 2 reported cases and Virginia Gardens still has no reported cases.

The State of Florida now has over 12,000 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus with nearly 1,500 hospitalizations or roughly 12%.  There have been 218 deaths statewide for a fatality rate of 1.8%.

Miami-Dade County has the highest number of cases in the state, but our ratios are better.  Miami-Dade has over 4,000 cases, but only 245 reported hospitalizations.  That’s a 6% hospitalization rate in the county compared to the statewide ratio of over 12%.  Also, the fatality rate in Miami-Dade County is less than 1% compared to the state’s rate of nearly 2%.

We don’t know why the ratios in Miami-Dade are better than the state average.  Maybe we’re just testing and identifying far more people in Miami-Dade compared to the state overall.  Or maybe we’re doing a better job protecting the most vulnerable in our society.  Either way, it’s important to stay vigilant to keep the hospitalization and the fatality rates low within our community.  That includes wearing masks in public.  Practice social distancing.  And wash your hands, wash your hands, wash your hands.

God bless you and stay safe.

  1. Miami-Dade local municipalities, but don’t include Homestead, Florida City, Coral Gables. So these are not Miami-Dade stats. Just a handful of northern portion of the county stats.

    • The section for County Stats reflects the entire county. In terms of local municipalities, we focus primarily on Miami Springs and the surrounding municipalities since this website is MiamiSprings.com and not FloridaCity-CoralGables-Homestead.com.
