FLORIDA

The total number of new cases of the Coronavirus grew even faster over the last week with nearly 49,000 new confirmed cases.  That’s the largest 7 day total since the pandemic began in the State of Florida.  The total number of cases increased from 141,075 cases last week to 190,052 this week.

New hospitalizations in the State of Florida also increased by nearly 1,500 cases this week.  That puts the hospitalization rate at 8%.  Florida also had 384 new fatalities this week for a total of 3,803 fatalities since the start of the pandemic.  The fatality in Florida stands at 2%.  Of course, fatalities tend to be a trailing indicator after increases in cases.

MIAMI-DADE

Miami-Dade cases jumped by 33% over the last seven days.  That’s a total of nearly 45,000 cases in Miami-Dade since the start of the pandemic.  The good news in Miami-Dade is that new hospitalizations has actually trended down the last few weeks.  This is good news for our local hospital system.  However, fatalities increased to 85 dead in Miami-Dade County last week.  Miami-Dade has lost 1,038 people to COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic.

Locally, we had 83 new cases within our zip code over the last 7 days.  The total number of confirmed cases within zip code 33166 has now reached 520 cases.

FAIR HAVENS

Three more residents of Fair Havens have died over the last week due to the Coronavirus.  This brings the total number of fatalities to 47 deaths since the start of the pandemic.  Fair Havens still leads the State of Florida as the nursing home with the greatest number of fatalities from COVID-19.
