Residents Meet with Councilwoman Maria Mitchell re: Downtown Development
January 9 @ 7:30 pm
At the last council meeting, residents came out concerned over the proposal to possibly build over 50 apartments at the old theater location. While nearly everyone is in favor of replacing the old theater and redeveloping downtown commercially, many were extremely upset about the Gateway Overlay District and the increase in FAR that now allows significantly more residential density to be built downtown.
In addition, residents spoke out against reducing the minimum size of the apartments currently set at 900 square feet. Below is a condensed video with highlights from the 4 hour long council meeting.
In response to the changes in the Central Business District and Gateway Overlay District, several residents reached out to Councilwoman Maria Mitchell to ask to speak with her to share their thoughts. She graciously agreed to meet with the residents on Wednesday, January 9th at 7:30pm at the Miami Springs Rec Center (inside the Miami Heat Room.) Anyone interested in meeting and speaking with Councilwoman Mitchell are welcome to join.
