Miami Springs is a Great Community

The folks in the Bahamas were absolutely decimated by Hurricane Dorian.  What did the Miami Springs community do?  It filled up a U-HAUL truck full of hurricane relief supplies in under 24 hours.

According to the staff that was loading up the truck, the city was going to unload the truck this morning at a Miami-Dade County Relief site and would return ready to receive more donations today.

The City of Miami Springs is collecting items for the victims of Hurricane Dorian in The Bahamas. “Miami-Dade County will be spearheading relief efforts for the residents of the Bahamas, where various islands have been hit hard by Hurricane Dorian’s devastating strength.”- Miami-Dade County Government. All items collected by the City will be transported to Miami-Dade County for shipment to The Bahamas.

Drop-off your donations at the Miami Springs Rec Center parking lot 1401 Westward Drive Miami Springs, FL 33166. Place your items in the U-Haul truck that reads “Bahamas Relief”.

Drop-off Hours:

Monday – Friday: 7am- 9pm
Saturday-Sunday: 7am -7pm

Please limit donations to items requested by the government of the Bahamas.

• Non-perishable foods
• Hygiene kits (tissue, toothpaste, tooth brushes, towels, sanitary napkins)
• Cleaning supplies (bleach, mops, brooms, garbage bags, sponges, clothes pins)
• Disinfectants
• Baby formula, bottles and supplies
• Jerry cans (plastic water bottles)
• Beds, cots
• Blankets
• Portable toilets
• Flashlights
• Batteries
• Mosquito repellent (DEET-free)
• Cooking utensils
• Temporary housing
• Tarpaulins
• Plastic sheeting

• First aid kits (bandages, gauze and tape)

The Bahamas took a direct hit from a record setting category 5 hurricane that sat on the island for days.  The 185mph sustained winds and 220mph gusts left the area a barren landscape with nearly every building sustaining devastating to catastrophic roof damages.  And what the wind did not destroy, the storm surge battered and washed away.

The Bahamians have lost everything and are in post hurricane survival mode.

The people of Miami Springs realize that Hurricane Dorian could have easily devastated our city.  We are very lucky to have missed Dorian’s wrath.

LIONS CLUB

The Miami Springs Lions Club will have the District Hurricane Disaster Relief Trailer available on site at the Miami Springs Lions Club Clubhouse 301 Swallow Drive:
Wednesday, September 4 through Fish Fry Sunday, September 8 from **2 PM through 7 PM**

Donations will be boxed up on Monday and flown to the Bahamas on Tuesday!
