The City of Miami Springs announced the launch of a new Bike Patrol Unit.
According the the Police Department, “You will see officers of the Bike Patrol Unit a few times a month patrolling throughout the city. One of the benefits of the unit is they are able to traverse areas where patrol vehicles cannot.”
Bikes are great for traversing parks, fields, the golf course, alleyways, and any other unpaved areas. The bikes also provide a type of “stealth” as the officers can arrive on location quietly without the noise associated with a patrol car. Furthermore, it makes the officer far more approachable to pedestrians than a cruiser would be.
