Veteran Fourth Grade Springview Elementary Teacher, Diana Suarez, was selected as the Teacher of the Year for 2010. Mrs. Suarez has had a long track record of success starting in 1996 at Henry E.S. Reeves Elementary, in NW Miami-Dade County, where she tackled teaching in the inner city……To the last half dozen years at Springview Elementary where she has helped the school achieve its A+ RATING.

Since moving to Springview Elementary, she has excelled in teaching the Reading/Language Arts curriculum to Fourth Graders. A crucial task as Springview Elementary, an A+ school for the past 8 years is rated based on the FCAT results from grades 3 through 4th, including the FCAT Writing Test that only fourth graders take. (This year, it`s on February 9th.) No doubt, Springview Elementary has benefitted greatly from Mrs. Suarez`s talented and caring approach to children.

Mrs. Suarez, who holds a Master`s Degree in Educational Technology from Nova Southeastern, believes that, “The best part of teaching no matter what grade you teach is seeing the growth of the students throughout the school year.” Her Springview Elementary Teacher of the Yearphilosophy is, ” That every child has a strength. Everychild can be motivated. Use that strength and build upon it. Use that motivation to encourage them to learn. It doesn`t matter if they have a language barrier or a learning disability. Always expect more, not less.”

On January 22nd, Mrs. Suarez was honored with a breakfast ceremony at the Doral Resort and Spa. The ceremony, formally called the 2011 Region III Franciso R. Walker Teachers of the Year on the Runway, was a fun event featuring all of the region`s Teachers of the Year as they were escorted by their respective principals down a long catwalk style runway. Mrs. Suarez was no exception as she was proudly escorted by Springview Elementary Principal, Mayte Dovale.

The event was highlighted by a surprise appearance from Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent, Mrs. Suarez Superintendent Carvalho Mrs. DovaleAlberto Carvalho, who mingled and took pictures with the teachers in attendance.

Editor`s Note: A special thanks goes to Mrs. Suarez, Principal Dovale, and all of the Springview Family for making Springview Elementary yet another wonderful jewel within our Beautiful City: Miami Springs.
