LOCAL CASES COVID-19

New cases of the Coronavirus continue to climb, even locally.  We saw 259 new cases of COVID-19 within our zip code, 33166, over the last week.  In Miami Springs, we estimate we’re approaching nearly 2,000 total cases of COVID-19.  That means nearly 14% of Springs residents have at some point tested positive for the virus during this pandemic.

MIAMI-DADE CASES COVID-19

Miami-Dade added another 19,072 cases of COVID-19 over the last week putting the total number of cases in the county over 300,000 since the start of the pandemic.  

Miami-Dade had 225 new hospitalizations over the last 7 days.  Not good, but not terribly alarming…for now.

Miami-Dade did see an increase in fatalities over the last week with 124 people lost to COVID-19.  That’s the highest number of weekly fatalities in the county since September.

FLORIDA COVID-19 CASES

The State of Florida added over 100,000 cases of COVID-19 over the last 7 days.  That’s the highest increase in the State of Florida since the start of the pandemic.

Florida’s weekly fatality count hasn’t been great, but it has been consistent over the last few weeks.  There were 653 new fatalities last week, keeping within a weekly range of about 500 – 800 fatalities statewide per week.

COVID-19 VACCINE

As you know, the COVID-19 vaccine is being distributed in Florida.  Hospital employees have already been receiving the vaccine to ensure safety for those treating patients with COVID-19.

Jackson Health System will soon be scheduling vaccination for EXISTING Jackson patients aged 65 and older who meet specific risk criteria within the Jackson Health System.
