Trio arrested for armed robbery, grand theft auto, grand theft, and battery according to the Miami Springs Police Department.
According to the Police, a Male Victim went to two separate banks in the Miami Springs area on Saturday, August 21st. He was accompanied by Catherine Hauri while he withdrew cash from the banks. The victim (who’s name was withheld in the release), cashed out a total of $4,450.00.
The victim stored $4,100 in his vehicle and kept $350 on him.
According to Police, the victim then drove back to a hotel in Miami Springs with Catherine Hauri and entered the hotel room. Shortly thereafter, Catherine Hauri allegedly tells the victim she’s going to get ice and leaves the room. As soon as she left the room, Daniel Trujillo and Joseph Bernal allegedly entered the hotel room and pepper sprayed the victim in the eyes. Police also allege that Trujillo and Bernal punched and kicked the victim before taking the $350 in cash, the victim’s cell phone, and the victim’s key fob.
According to Miami Springs Police, Daniel Trujillo and Catherine Hauri used the victim’s key fob and fled the scene in the victim’s car. Police allege that Bernal left the scene in a separate vehicle that was used to transport Trujillo and Bernal to the hotel in the first place.
The victim’s stolen vehicle was located within about an hour using the vehicle’s OnStar system. Miami-Dade Police recovered the stolen vehicle. Furthermore, the $4,100 that the victim had stashed in his car was no where to be found.
Miami Springs detectives met with the victim and showed him a photo lineup. According to Police, the victim was able to positively identify all three suspects.
Miami Springs Police worked with the Miami-Dade Police Midwest District Gang Unit which was able to locate and arrest all 3 suspects in a City of Miami hotel. Miami Springs Police also responded to the scene of the apprehension and transported the suspects to the Miami Springs Police Station for questioning.
