The number of new COVID-19 cases in the State of Florida has dramatically increased over the last week.  As you can see in the chart below, the curve for new cases has more than doubled in June.  This means we cannot let our guard down in terms of wearing masks, washing hands, and social distancing.  The good news is that the number of deaths related to COVID-19 has gone way down.  (See second chart below.)

We know COVID-19 does not attack everyone the same.  Younger healthy people almost have nothing to worry about except for the risk of spreading it to older family members and loved ones.  As we know, COVID-19 is very cruel on the frail and elderly.  COVID-19 has killed 42 people at Fair Havens as of the latest report from the State of Florida.

FLORIDA STATS

The State of Florida now has 73,552 confirmed cases of the virus.  That is an increase of 17% versus the prior week or 10,794 new cases in the last 7 days.  Hospitalizations have increased by 9% over the last week to 11,874 cases.  Fatalities also increased by 9% to 2,925 fatalities statewide.

MIAMI-DADE STATS

Miami-Dade now has 21,633 confirmed cases of the virus or 28% of the state total.  That is an increase of 12% versus the prior week or 2,334 new cases in the last 7 days.  Hospitalizations have increased by 9% over the last week to 3,460 cases.  Fatalities increased by 7% to 822 in Miami-Dade.  That includes 42 fatalities at Fair Havens.

Within our zip code of 33166, we now have a total of 349 confirmed cases of the virus or 2% of the county’s cases.  That is an increase of 8% versus the prior week or 26 new cases in the last 7 days.  Over the last week, we lost 1 more individual to COVID-19 related to Fair Havens bringing the total to 42 deaths.
