This Sunday, March 17th, at 9 a.m., members of Miami Springs’ Oleeta-West Dade Lodge No. 145 are rallying together for an initiative to clean up NW 36th Street. This event aims to enhance the beauty and safety of our city’s roadways while fostering
a sense of civic pride and environmental stewardship.
The cleanup effort is part of the Florida Department of Transportation’s (FDOT) “Adopt-A-Highway” Program, a statewide initiative that empowers local groups and organizations to take an active role in maintaining and beautifying their communities.
Under the Adopt-A-Highway Program, volunteers agree to “adopt” a two-mile section of a state highway, dedicating two years to the program and following specified DOT safety regulations. They commit to removing litter a minimum of four times each year, contributing to a cleaner and safer environment for all residents and visitors.
In return, FDOT provides essential support, including assisting with safety meetings, supplying safety vests and litter bags, picking up litter at specified locations, and posting Adopt-A-Highway signs commending the group at the beginning and end of their section.
Participants will meet at Oleeta-West Dade Lodge at 9 a.m. on Sunday, March 17th, where they will receive safety instructions, equipment, and assignments. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in our community and create a cleaner, greener future for generations to come.
Oleeta-West Dade Lodge No. 145 is the result of various mergers over time, mainly the merger between Oleeta Lodge, founded in 1924, and West Dade Lodge No. 388. These two lodges merged on May 24th, 2003, forming Oleeta-West Dade Lodge No. 145, under the jurisdiction of the Grand Lodge of Florida.
