MSPD Accepting Drugs for the DEA’s National Take Back Drug Day

The drug overdose epidemic in the United States is a clear and present public health, public safety, and national security threat. DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA’s commitment to Americans’ safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.

The DEA is committed to making our communities safer and healthier, and we can do this by reducing overdoses and overdose deaths. While the community does its part to turn in unneeded medications and remove them from potential harm, we are doing our part to further reduce drug-related violence.

The City of Miami Springs Police Department is joining this national effort by collecting drugs from residents on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Community Policing Office located at 274 Westward Drive.

Here’s how it works:

• Turn in unused or expired medication
• The program is anonymous
• Remove any personal information from the label if applicable
• Keep liquids tightly capped in their original containers
• Injectables / syringes are not accepted
• Illicit drugs such as marijuana and meth are not accepted, but if you feel bold enough to bring illicit drugs to the police, you could be subject to arrest for the illegal possession of illicit drugs.
