On Wednesday, May 20, 2026, the anniversary of Cuba’s Independence from Spain and the same day that former Cuban Dictator, Raul Castro, was indicted for murder, residents in Miami Springs came together for a candlelight vigil for freedom for Cuba.

The last minute impromptu event was put together by Milly Perez-Crespo and Natalie Plasencia Calvo.

Natalie and Milly opened up the event with a passionate plea for a free Cuba. The people on the island yearn to be free. They are slaves to a communist regime that simply won’t let get. We are all praying for a free Cuba. But can “Cuba Libre” be more than just a slogan and actually become a reality in 2026?

The event drew residents, young and old, praying to make the dream of a free Cuba a reality.

Father Mathias Hualpa from Blessed Trinity was on hand and led the group in prayer.

Miami Springs Council Members, Jorge Santin, Orlando Lamas, Joseph Dion, and Fabian Perez-Crespo also spoke in support of a free Cuba finally becoming reality. As councilman Crespo said (and I’m paraphrasing), “We want less bla-bla-bla…we want action!”

We want to thank Natalie Calvo and Milly Perez-Crespo for setting up the event to pray for a free Cuba.

We also want to thank the Miami Springs Police Officers who were on hand to ensure the event was free from any incidents.

I’ve been praying for a free Cuba all my life. Things have definitely changed. The Cuban regime has never faced the pressure they are seeing right now. From a virtual fuel embargo, to an indictment on Raul Castro, to a reported Aircraft Carrier Strike Group entering the Caribbean Sea, Cuba has never experienced this level of sustained pressure.

Will it be enough?

God willing, freedom will rise over Cuba in 2026.

The people of Cuba have suffered enough under the Communist Regime.

It’s time for freedom, democracy, human rights, and prosperity.

It’s time to let freedom reign in Cuba.

What does a free Cuba look like to you?
