We wanted to give a shout out to CBS 4 Miami for covering the Miami Springs Centennial Celebration. But even local media still doesn’t grasp how important Glenn Curtiss was to South Florida and the aviation industry.
This is why the Glenn Curtiss monument is so important. We need to continue to educate current and future generations about Glenn Curtiss’ accomplishments and his contributions to South Florida.
While everyone knows the Wright Brothers, it was really Glenn Curtiss who turned flight into an aviation industry. While the Wright Brothers deserve their legacy as first in flight, the whole wing warping technology was never truly practical. It was Glenn Curtiss’ invention of the mechanical aileron (still used today) that truly transformed controlled flight.
