FLORIDA STATS
Over 30,000 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus in the State of Florida. Of those, 4,699 have required hospitalization or 16%. Florida has had 1,012 fatalities or a 3% fatality rate.
MIAMI-DADE
Miami-Dade has 10,701 confirmed cases of the Coronavirus. We’ve had 1,209 hospitalizations within the County or an 11% hospitalization rate. The fatality rate in the County is at 2.6%. Compare that to Florida’s 3.4% or Michigan’s 8%.
LOCAL AREA
There are now 87 cases of the Coronavirus within our zip code, 33166. Miami Springs represents 55% of the population within our zip code. That doesn’t necessarily mean we have 55% of the cases. We may have more. We may have less. But statistically, Miami Springs will have a decent portion of the 85 cases within our zip code. Nevertheless, we need to treat everyone as if they have the Coronavirus and practice social distancing, wear masks in public, and wash our hands frequently for a minimum of 20 seconds each time.
SUNSHINE
The virus dies quickly in direct sunlight. We already have 90 degree plus weather in sunny South Florida. You still have to practice social distancing, wash your hands, and wear a mask when out in public areas. But, this new evidence provides a natural way to kill the virus and/or disinfect items. It also provides another reason we need to spend time (away from others) outside during sunny days.
