And now, Your Late Nite Chiller Theater Presents A Science Fiction Classic, ‘They Came by Night’. Yes, boys and girls when our town was asleep, they arrived to our very own Circle with their military grade glue and rubbery plastic fake poles. Did they know what they were doing? Had they done something like this in the past? No one knows because, follow me now, it was apparent the little poles weren’t doing what they had hoped they’d do!
What the poles did do, was generate a little ‘feedback’ on the Miami Springs Community pages etc. Our annoyance was in full view, and the comments were not kind. We all held our breath hoping that somebody wouldn’t ‘test’ the arrows.
Here’s a bit of news that will brighten your driving day. The newly placed ‘lane poles’ have been removed from the Circle. No, they were removed legally. It wasn’t as if a band of local drivers came by in the middle of the night and spirited them away. That would have added to the historic lore of our town. Glenn Curtiss would have done that, no sweat!
Who visited the Circle in the middle of the night? Were there nefarious purposes?
Were they friends or foes? When the mission was accomplished, they left just as surreptitiously as they arrived. And when they left there came a new day which dawned without the specter of intrusive lane poles that befuddled us no end.
The Circle which we had been learning to negotiate over time was free of the unsightly poles. Let’s hope once and for all.
They were like little sentinels telling us where and how to go. We don’t need no stinkin’ poles!!! We’ll screw up the traffic with no help from anyone or anything.
Should we stand up and cheer? Yes!!! Did this happen in the dead of night? Maybe.
6 years ago, we reconfigured the driving lanes around our Circle and eliminated 2 of them. Did that mean we had less to worry about as we found our way through our peak traffic time? We never needed to think about driving while we were driving! We had other things to occupy our time. We eat, call, text and whatever.
By the time we got used to the new configuration, we felt that we could get on with our lives. Circles have always confused us, but we don’t live in the UK where it’s all backwards to us when entering a roundabout (circle). The horror of coming ‘face to face’ with another car in your oncoming lane is one we don’t have to worry about. We’ll just be terrified of our own drivers and their exquisite driving habits. All that and we didn’t even have to leave the zip code!
