Miami Springs Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to a scene at the Warren Pony Swing Bridge (incoming bridge) at Curtiss Parkway in response to a man under the bridge around noon on Saturday, January 10th.

As you may be aware, the 1924 bridge is undergoing restoration work. You can see there’s a platform under the bridge to allow workers access to repair the bridge from below.

It appears the man may have been homeless and using the area as shelter.

The man did not want to leave. You can see in the video further below that the man attempts to grab onto the bridge and onto road signs to prevent the first responders from apprehending him.

The man was yelling, but his words were not comprehensible in English or Spanish. Onlookers were speculating that the man was under the influence of drugs.

Miami Springs Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue had amassed a quick and professional response to the scene.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue had a dive team on site to provide assistance. Apprehending a subject near the waterway presented a high risk of drowning, especially with the possibility of a subject being under the influence.

Thanks to the quick response by both Miami Springs Police and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, the man in question was apprehended safely.

We want to thank the Miami Springs Police Department and Miami-Dade Fire Rescue for their prompt and professional response to the situation.
