Miami Springs Public Library in the 60sā€“ (Photo courtesy Miami Springs Historical Society and Museum.)

1960’s photo of the Miami Springs Public Library located located at 401 Westward Drive. In the 1950’s this was the home of the Miami Springs Recreation Center. Kids & adults used it for a large variety of activities including teen dances, craft classes, club meetings, celebrations, a voting precinct & more. We remember playing there in the 1950’s during the summers, walking on the stilts they had for the kids & playing tether ball. Tennis & shuffleboard courts were added in 1952. After the new pool & gym were built farther west in 1955 this became the Miami Springs library where we played basketball on the courts behind the building. At some point more tennis courts replaced the basketball courts & a racquet ball court on the side of the building was added. In 1965 it became part of the Dade County Library System. Today it is a well kept, clean facility with lots of natural light, wifi, computer terminals, a nice selection of books and new pickleball courts out back.
