The City of Miami Springs approved the inaugural Glenn Curtiss Vintage Motorcycle and Car Show at the Miami Springs Circle.  The event will be the first of many Centennial Celebration events as the City of Miami Springs celebrates its approaching 100 year anniversary.

What does a vintage Motorcycle and Car show have to do with the Miami Springs Centennial?  As a reminder, Miami Springs was founded by Glenn Curtiss, inventor, aviator, businessman, and daredevil.  Oh…and the Fastest Man on Earth back in 1907.  Glenn Curtiss achieved a speed of 136.4 MPH on a V-8 powered Curtiss Motorcycle in Ormond Beach, Florida.  Yeah, that looks safe.

Well, to help bring more awareness of the momentous accomplishments from our city’s founder, honor his legacy, and celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the City of Miami Springs, the Miami Springs Centennial Committee in collaboration with Miami Springs Councilman Jorge Santin connected with Philip Gonzalez from the Antique Motorcycle Club of America to create the Glenn Curtiss Vintage Motorcycle and Car Show.

To be clear, this isn’t just any car and bike show.  As Mr. Gonzalez explained to the City Council, he’s hosted the Palm Beach Concours event for the last 5 years.  The Palm Beach Concours is one of the most exclusive car shows in the country attracting some of the rarest and finest cars from around the world.  That truly makes it an honor and privilege to be able to invite such an organization to host a motorcycle and car show right here in Miami Springs.

We’d like to give a special shout out to Miami Springs Councilman Jorge Santin and the Miami Springs Centennial Committee for spearheading this initiative.

We are thrilled to have this event here in Miami Springs, especially because it highlights Glenn Curtiss and just some of his many amazing accomplishments.

That said, this show did come at a cost.  The City of Miami Springs was concerned with the number of days it would have to close the Circle.  Remember, the Circle is closed for the 4th of July Car Show, the Halloween event, the Christmas on the Circle event, and the Christmas Car Show.  So the Council decided to cancel the Christmas Car Show in December in order to host the Glenn Curtiss Vintage Motorcycle and Car Show event in November.

Overall, we love the idea of partnering with such a prestigious group to host a vintage motorcycle and car show.  Did we want to cancel the Christmas Car Show?  Of course not.  We would have loved to keep both events.  We always want everything, right?  However, hosting these events does take up city staff resources including Public Works and Police. Maybe we can find the funding in the future to host both events.

Nevertheless, we are thrilled to see the hard work and labor from the Centennial Committee pay off with a great new event that honors the history of Glenn Curtiss right on the Glenn Hammond Curtiss Circle Park on Curtiss Parkway.

The event will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, from 10am – 4pm at the Miami Springs Circle.  This will be the first of several Miami Springs Centennial events celebrating 100 years of Miami Springs history.
