According to an article published by Theo Karantsalis in the Miami Herald, 2 large chemical tanks were found underneath the old pool. According to the article, these tanks may have been used to store diesel petroleum underneath the former olympic sized pool. Also concerning in the article is the report of an excess of 5 tons of “petroleum contaminated soil” that was removed from the site.
