According to Miami Springs Police, Randy Gregory Gotrace was cycling through a residential area at 4:00 a.m. without any lights and wearing a full face mask covering. We’re not talking a COVID mask. According to MSPD, this sounds like a full on ski-mask type covering.
Officer Hall, one of the midnight shift officers, spotted Gotrace and attempted to approach. MSPD alleges that Gotrace then attempted to flee before being detained.
After being detained, Miami Springs Police allege that Gotrace “was found with burglary tools and several items of property that were impounded.” Gotrace was then arrested by Officer Hall. According to MSPD he was also found to have “an extensive violent criminal history.” Gotrace was charged with:
– LOITERING OR PROWLING
– RESISTING OFFICER WITHOUT VIOLENCE TO HIS PERSON
– WEARING A MASK ON STREET
Miami Springs Police Stated:
“This is a perfect example of crime deterrence through vigilance. Our midnight officers protect our community during its most vulnerable hours — when we’re asleep.”
MSPD also want to remind you to lock your cars. Vehicular burglaries are the most common crime in Miami Springs. They also want you to report any suspicious activity immediately. Don’t worry about being politically correct. If you see something odd, “Like a man wearing a mask, riding a bike, at 4am,” please don’t hestitate and call Miami Springs Police at 305.888.9711.
