Miami Springs and Virginia Gardens now have a new, unelected, County Commissioner.  On Tuesday, May 6th, the Miami-Dade County Commission selected West Miami Commissioner, Natalie Milian Orbis as the new District 6 Miami-Dade County Commissioner.  Former Miami Springs Mayor Maria Mitchell had also applied for the role, but withdrew her application before Tuesday’s County Commission vote.

Commissioner Higgins and Commissioner Garcia voted against the measure as they preferred that the selection be done through an election and not from an appointment.

We hope that Commissioner Orbis will be more receptive to the needs of the Miami Springs and Virginia Gardens communities than her predecessor, Kevin Marino Cabrera, who let us down on annexation and on the recent Miami Springs land deal.
