Gary Wayne Stringer, born on June 17, 1952, in Miami, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2024, in Naples, Florida.
Gary grew up in Miami Springs and attended Miami Springs High School. He later became a Master Plumber in Miami before settling in Goodland, Florida, in 1982. He was the third child of Thomas and Florence Stringer of Miami Springs and a devoted brother and caretaker to his sister, Joann.
A man of many passions, Gary loved fishing and spent countless hours exploring the waterways of Goodland and the surrounding Ten Thousand Islands. He also enjoyed disco dancing, camping, watching old westerns, and working with his hands—building, fixing, and creating his visions. Known for his big heart, Gary was a loyal friend and companion who gave generously to those around him when he could. Sentimental by nature, he wore his emotions on his sleeve and found joy in life’s simple pleasures.
As a young man, Gary led an adventurous life filled with stories he loved to share. Many of these tales reflected the rich history of Florida or the vibrant times of life in Miami during the 70s and 80s. In his later years, he dreamed of traveling Florida’s coasts in his camper, metal detecting for treasures along the way. A man of deep faith, Gary cherished his relationship with God. Some of his most treasured moments were spent on his balcony at sunrise, enjoying coffee while talking to God and remembering Betty, his beloved partner who preceded him in death.
Gary is survived by his daughter, Melissa Schlottman, and his grandson, Henry Bennett Schlottman.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held on January 11, 2025, at Goodland Baptist Church in Goodland, Florida. Fellowship will follow.
Gary lived a full life, remaining true to himself and unapologetically dancing to the beat of his own drum. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and loyalty. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him.
