Have you been to Washington Park in Miami Springs? I bet you’ve passed by it a million times. Washington Park is the name of the small green Butterfly Garden outside the Miami Springs Library.

Well, at last week’s Miami Springs City Council Meeting, Councilman Fabian Perez-Crespo proposed renaming George Washington Park, at 401 Westward Drive, to Imogene “Gene” Post Park.
You might be asking, “Who’s Imogene ‘Gene’ Post?”
Imogene “Gene” Post was the woman that started the Miami Springs Woman’s Club back in May of 1939. Then, with the help of the newly established Woman’s Club, she spearheaded the development of the Miami Springs Library. She is also credited for starting the first Methodist Church and Presbyterian Church in Miami Springs.
The Council unanimously agreed on renaming the park to Imogene “Gene” Post Park.
