A shooting incident occurred at a hotel located on the 3900 block of South River Drive on Monday, January 23, 2023 at approximately 9:40 am. Miami Springs Police officers were dispatched to the scene and an investigation was launched to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
According to the investigation, the victim had arrived at the hotel to pick up his girlfriend, who was staying in a room with a female friend and two male subjects, identified as Baldwin Baker (Defendant) and a juvenile subject (co-defendant). A verbal altercation ensued between the victim and the co-defendant regarding his girlfriend. As they were leaving the hotel, Baker allegedly stopped the vehicle, at which point the juvenile subject allegedly fired approximately 4-6 shots from the passenger side of the vehicle towards the victim. Thankfully, no one was struck as a result of the alleged shooting.
On Wednesday, January 25, 2023, the City of Miami Springs Police Department’s Problem Solving Team (PST) located Baker and the juvenile subject within their jurisdiction. The juvenile was immediately taken into custody, however, Baker fled into an apartment. After a perimeter was established, Baker voluntarily exited the apartment and was taken into custody without incident. A criminal history check of Baker revealed that he had an outstanding fugitive warrant out of Oklahoma.
As a result, Baker and the juvenile were arrested and charged with:
- Attempted Felony Murder
- Discharging a Firearm from a vehicle
- Shooting a Deadly Missile
- Firearm use in the commission of a Felony
- (2) counts of Armed Criminal Mischief over $1000
- Possession of Firearm by a Minor
