A beloved Virginia Gardens resident and Gold Star Mother, Georgie has dedicated her life to veterans and their families. Her son, PFC Bruce W. Carter, was killed in action during the Vietnam War at just 19 years old and was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his heroism.
For over five decades, Georgie has turned her loss into a lifetime of service—supporting veterans, honoring fallen heroes, and inspiring countless others with her leadership and compassion.
Mayor Spencer Deno IV, Councilman Richard Block, VGPD Chief Ray Hernandez, and Administrative Assistant Zoila attended on behalf of the Village, with Mayor Deno presenting Georgie a proclamation and recognizing Commissioner Natalie Milian Orbis and Mayor Jose “Pepe” Diaz for their contributions to honoring PFC Carter’s legacy.
The dedication also coincided with Georgie’s 94th birthday, celebrated with cake, family, friends, and community leaders.
Virginia Gardens is proud to call Georgie Carter Krell one of our own, and we celebrate her remarkable life of service, sacrifice, and leadership.
