Miami Springs Police arrested Jandier Molina Arrieta for allegedly throwing rocks at the Miami Springs welcome sign near Ludlam and Royal Poinciana Boulevard (by the train tracks). He also allegedly threw metal train track spikes at a Miami Springs Police officer’s patrol car.
According to police, Arrieta fled on foot after being approached by the police. In an effort to get away, Arrieta jumped into the Miami Canal that separates Hialeah and Miami Springs. As a result, units from Hialeah PD, Hialeah Fire-Rescue, Virginia Gardens PD, and Medley PD responded. Even Miami-Dade Sheriff’s aviation department responded.
Miami Springs Police dispatched its marine unit on the canal along with its K-9 units on the ground and were ultimately able to take custody of the subject.
Arrieta was charged with:
- Aggravated assault on a police officer
- 2 counts of throwing a deadly missile
- Battery on a police officer
- Criminal mischief
- Resisting an officer with violence
Here’s what Miami Springs Police posted to social media about the incident:
“While on routine patrol, one of our officers observed a male suspect damaging a City of Miami Springs welcome sign by throwing rocks. When approached, the suspect fled on foot, throwing metal train track spikes at the officer’s patrol car, causing significant damage. He later jumped into the Okeechobee Canal and evaded officers by swimming between jurisdictions. After a lengthy pursuit involving multiple agencies, K-9 deployment, and aviation support, the suspect was apprehended and treated for injuries. He continued to resist arrest and refused to identify himself but was later identified using facial recognition.
A big thank you to, Virginia Gardens PD, Medley PD, Hialeah PD, Hialeah Fire Rescue and their dive team, and Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Aviation for their coordinated efforts in capturing an aggressive suspect who damaged city property, threw rocks and metal spikes at officers, and violently resisted arrest.”
