We reported last year that automated speed traps were coming to Miami Springs. Well, they’re finally here.
Here’s how it works. The Florida Legislature allowed for the creation of automated speed traps at school zones. As a result, the City of Miami Springs has installed the automated speed detection devices (aka Automated Speed Traps) around some of our local Miami Springs schools.
These traps will trigger when vehicles are speeding 11 mph or more over the posted speed limit starting 30 minutes before the posted school zone times and continuing throughout the school day until 30 minutes after the posted school zone times.
Of course, you won’t know that you were cited until you receive a citation in the mail. We’ve been warning you that this was coming. Don’t act surprised when you receive a ticket for speeding in our school zones.
We applaud this effort as it adds a further deterrence to speeding in Miami Springs, especially around our school zones.
Of course, if you ever see a driver acting erratically, don’t wait for a camera. Call the Miami Springs Police Department at 305.888.9711.
