The students, parents, teachers, volunteers, and our local police officers all shined during today’s National Bike to School Day as scores of students rode their bike to Springview Elementary today.
Miami Springs is a unique community. The kids biking to Springview Elementary don’t have to cross busy highways like Okeechobee Road or NW 36th Street. They can easily bike to school in what is one of the friendliest, if not the friendliest neighborhood for a community bike ride.
The effort started as a bike bus where a few parents would bike with their kids to drop them off at school. Friends started joining and before you know it, they had a full scale parade to school, complete with a police escort and even dignitaries such as Miami Springs Mayor Walter Fajet participating.
What a great way to start a school day than with a fun bike ride. By the time these kids start school, they’ve already flexed their muscles and got their heart pumping. Their mind is fully awake and ready to start the day with a great and positive attitude.

We want to thank all the parents, students, and especially the Miami Springs Police Department for their consistent commitment to our community. Thank you!
