According to an article published by Hotel News Resource, the Aladdin Hotel located in Miami Springs is listed for sale. This comes after an order by a Miami-Dade Circuit court judge to sell the Aladdin Hotel (according to an article published by Law.com).
The Aladdin Hotel has long been a controversial part of Miami Springs. Dubbed as a sex motel by some for its short term rentals and themed rooms, it has also suffered from crime including the murder of 46-year-old Julio Gonzalez back in December 2022. A suspect was arrested in the Aladdin Motel murder in April 2024.
In 2019 we reported of a sexual assault incident at the Aladdin Hotel.
In April of 2019 we shared a report by Theo Karantsalis of a gunpoint robbery at the Aladdin Hotel.
With the property now for sale, the question becomes, “what will come next?” Will it continue to be operated as a short term rental? Will it be converted into an apartment complex?
We like the idea of converting the existing structure into an apartment complex. We believe converting the use from a motel to an apartment would reduce crime in the area.
Years ago, the Royal Poinciana Motel was operated at this location and was not known for the kind of crime that we’ve seen since it was converted into the Aladdin.
Another possibility could be the consolidation of the Aladdin property with the Miami Subs Grill (located next door) which sold in March for $2.6 Million in March of this year.
We’d love to see the whole building torn down to create a CVS or Walgreens, however, that may require zoning changes and would be pretty expensive.
