Spencer Deno gave a great presentation citing the history of the Village of Virginia Gardens including a prior annexation by Miami-Dade County taking away Village property in favor of developing the airport further west.
The Village of Virginia Gardens had less opposition to their annexation application than the City of Miami Springs. Among the reasons cited in favor of VG’s application included a prior approval by the County’s Planning and Advisory Board (which Miami Springs and Medley did not receive). Another Commissioner cited the relatively small amount of increase the businesses in the VG annexation area would see in their millage rate compared to the increase the businesses in the Miami Springs annexation area would see.
At the end the Village received quick approval with a 9-3 vote in favor of the application presented by the Village of Virginia Gardens.
