A cyclists was traveling north on Le Jeune road from Miami Springs to Hialeah attempting to cross Okeechobee Road when he was struck and killed by a hit and run driver. The incident occurred last Thursday morning at approximately 4am.
According to local media reports, the victim was heading to work for Uber Eats when he was struck and killed.
Leonel Alejandro Laferte was arrested later that same day, according to Local 10, after he turned himself in at the Hialeah Police Department.
According to the report, Laferte “failed to immediately stop, remain at the scene or provide aid as required by Florida law.”
Miami-Dade Corrections records show that Laferte was charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
