The City of Miami Springs issued the following statement after multiple residents had expressed concerns over being misled by FPL regarding the ugly green ground transformers.
At the September 22, 2025 City Council Meeting, representatives from Florida Power & Light (FPL) provided an update on theĀ Storm Secure Underground ProgramĀ ā an initiative aimed at improving reliability by replacing overhead power lines with underground lines in select areas.
Some residents in Miami Springs have signed agreements allowing FPL to use easements on their properties as part of this project.

Special Meeting October 20th
The City of Miami Springs is hosting a special workshop by Florida Power & Light to be held at the Senior Center on Monday, October 20th at 5:30pm.

Update from Mayor Fajet
Mayor Fajet stated at Monday’s Miami Springs City Council Meeting that the City of Miami Springs has been lobbying FPL to reconsider placing the ground transformers (aka the ugly green boxes) in the alleys instead of in front yards.Ā Fajet indicated the lobbying effort appears to be having some inroads, but he is still encouraging residents to attend the FPL workshop on Monday, October 20th at the Senior Center.
