HALLOWEEN WEATHER UPDATE: The forecast calls for a high of just 78 degrees with a low of 62 degrees on Friday. And the skies are expected to be clear with just a 5% chance of precipitation.
Miami Springs is known for having the BEST traditional door to door trick or treating in all of South Florida! The community comes alive with Halloween spirit, making it a favorite destination for families and trick-or-treaters. But this year promises to be extra special. Halloween falls on a Friday. With Saturday off, many residents are sure to pull out the extras for the front yard haunted houses and halloween block parties.
Record Year for Trick or Treaters
Again, since Halloween falls on a Friday, there’s no work or school on Monday. That promises to draw an extra large crowd of trick or treaters from nearby communities who want to experience a traditional, door to door trick or treating Halloween in a safe, family friendly community like Miami Springs. Plus, it’s probably going to be a longer night of revelry than on traditional school nights.
As you drive through Miami Springs, many residents are already decorating their homes for Halloween. While others prepare for a full on, front yard haunted house experience.
Ultimately, Halloween is about creating a wonderful experience for our local kids, and the thousands of kids who visit Miami Springs from other communities to enjoy the warmth and kindness our community provides each year.
HALLOWEEN SAFETY PRECAUTIONSÂ
DRIVERS:
Folks, there are going to be lots of kids walking on the streets. Slow down while driving. Treat interior residential areas with active trick or treaters like school zones. Drivers, be patient. And most importantly…Do not drink and drive.
PARENTS:
Bring flashlights. It’s dark in Miami Springs. Flash lights let you brighten up dark streets and sidewalks. There are lots of trip hazards along swales that may not be visible. Most importantly, flashlights help to alert drivers of your presence, especially when crossing or walking along our dark streets.
Glow sticks and bracelets are also great addition for children to wear to keep them visible on the streets. We know most kids don’t wear bright costumes and I’ve never seen anyone put reflective tape on a costume. A good ol’ fashion flashlight will do the best job.
One last thing. Parents, please be careful with the treats you receive. Only let your child enjoy store purchased, wrapped candies or chocolates. As you know, we recently had an incident at Miami Springs Elementary where a child brought what is believed to be a marijuana infused treat to school. That child shared it with friends during aftercare leaving several kids very sick.
POLICE PRESENCE
The Miami Springs Police Department always has a strong presence patrolling the streets on Halloween. If you see an erratic driver or anything else suspicious, contact the Miami Springs Police Department at 305.888.9711.
TRICK OR TREATING HOURS
The trick or treaters usually start after sunset or about 7pm. However, the peak volume of trick or treaters is typically between 8pm and 9pm. By 10pm, many residents turn off their lights. However, seeing as Halloween falls on a Friday night, we expect many residents will keep the lights and the music going later than usual. Like we said, we’re expecting it to be a really fun Halloween experience this year in Miami Springs.
