Longtime Miami Springs resident, Ana Drew, was honored at Monday’s Miami Springs City Council Meeting for her 40 years of service to Miami-Dade County Public Schools and the Miami Springs Community.
Mrs. Drew was a very young, fresh faced teacher named Ms. Fernandez at Miami Springs Middle School when this author was attending the school as a seventh and eighth grader. I can’t say that I had the pleasure of having her as a teacher since I was never in her classes. But I can say, that she always had a lot of energy, enthusiasm, and a beautiful smile. And the kids that did have her as a teacher, loved her.

It’s no secret that her smile was infectious. As it gathered the attention of another fresh faced teacher named coach Drew. Spoiler alert: Coach Drew would marry Ms. Fernandez, now Mrs. Drew.
Growing up in Miami Springs and raising my own kids in this beautiful community, it’s heartwarming to see how such a wonderful couple and family have left such a positive impact on so many people in our community.
People always wonder what makes Miami Springs so great. We can say it’s the central location. We can say it’s the beautiful tree lined streets. But that’s not really true. What really makes Miami Springs so great, are the wonderful people, like Ana Drew, who commit their lives to this beautiful community.
Whether it’s teaching at Miami Springs Senior High or volunteering at our local church, we want to thank the Drew family for a legacy of service and love for our community. God bless you and the entire Drew family. We love you guys!
