Douglas Lee Orr, age 79, of Palm City, Florida, passed away on February 19, 2024. He was born on September 19, 1944, in Miami, Florida. Doug was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, mentor, coach and friend. He was a great leader in the plumbing industry and was known for his hard work and dedication.

Doug’s career was marked by significant achievements. He graduated from Hialeah High School in 1962 and attended University of Georgia of which he remained a loyal fan. Doug founded Douglas Orr Plumbing in 1974 as a one man shop working out of his garage, which has grown to become one of the largest plumbing companies in South Florida. He served on several boards as chairman including the Dade County Construction Trades Qualifying Board and Dade County’s Board of Rules and Appeals. He was also actively involved in his community, coaching various sports and serving on the City of Miami Springs Recreation Board. He received recognition as the first inductee to the Wall of Fame at the Miami Springs Recreation Center, an inductee to the Miami Springs High School Hall of Fame, namesake of the Doug Orr Training Center for the Plumbers Local Union #519, as well as having the street where his shop is still located and operating today named Doug Orr Way.

In his free time, Doug enjoyed golfing and was instrumental in securing the Miami Springs Golf & Country Club from the City of Miami, upon which he became its first charter member. Upon retirement, he moved to Roaring Gap, NC, where he became a member of the High Meadows Golf & Country Club. He was extremely proud of his family but was world-renowned for lack of patience, not holding back his opinion and a knack for getting his point across usually with a quick witted joke. He also attended the school of hard knocks and yes we were told many times how he earned his way, so suck it up. With that said, he was genuine and generous to a fault, a lion with a tender heart and yet told it like it was.

Doug is survived by his loving wife, Yvonne Orr, his children Elizabeth Behrens (Chris), Wayne Orr (Leah), Jennifer Guido (James), Craig Berounsky (Chrissy), Kevin Berounsky (Laura), twelve grandchildren, two great grandchildren and his beloved bulldog, Chubbs. He was preceded in death by his parents Archibald Barr Orr and Gilda Petzsch Orr and his sister, Martha Orr Chesser.

A private graveside service will be held at Caballero Rivero Woodlawn Park North Cemetery, 3344 SW 8th Street, Miami, FL 33135 followed by a celebration of life reception at Miami Springs Golf & Club, 650 Curtiss Parkway, Miami Springs, FL 33166, where well-wishers are encouraged to attend and toast a glass of Wild Turkey in his honor. Time and date will be posted on https://www.dignitymemorial.com/funeral-homes/florida/miami/caballero-rivero-little-havana/9548 when available.
