VOTE OUT THE MAYOR & CITY COUNCIL – Why?
THEY JUST SPENT $5 MILLON
ON A POOL & DIDNT LET YOU VOTE!
NOW YOU WILL PAY TAXES & FEES
Truth and Consequences about the new POOL WHY YOU SHOULD VOTE IN A NEW CITY COUNCIL
Our City Charter states No general obligation bonds shall be issued by the city unless the issuance of
such bonds shall have been approved by the vote of the majority of the electors voting on the issuance
of such bonds in a general or special election.
Did they ask us to vote? No! Our mayor and city council used a loophole and just got a $7 million loan
from SunTrust Bank. The interest rate on the Citys new loan from SunTrust can be adjusted up to the
Prime Rate plus 8% without missing a payment. What happens if the economy is bad between now
(Here`s the screenshot from the resolution approving the Anti-Dilution Calculation that allows a Prime + 8% increase.)
To get the loan the mayor and city council guaranteed money you pay to Miami Springs in public service
taxes and franchise fees will go to Sun Trust Bank first to pay for the loan until 2030. That means Taxes
& Fees on your electricity, water, sewer, gas, phone and cable bills can go to paying for this debt and
all will likely be increased over the next 15 years by the mayor and city counsel.
To pay down $7 million, it will cost the 5000+ households in Miami Springs over $1,200 a day, every day
for the next 5,475 days, until 2030! This does not include interest.
So what will we give up for 15 years of pool payments? Senior funding? Youth funding? New streets?
Or will the mayor and city counsel just raise our taxes?
