Residents living near a short term rental property along Dove Avenue were furious with what they feel is the inability to stop the bad behavior by some of the renters.

These long term residents shared the following concerns:

  • Not feeling safe
  • Repeated incidents
  • 10 cars being parked at rental property
  • Stabbing at property
  • Many shirtless men
  • Women dressed inappropriately
  • 14-16 people at rental property
  • Sexual assault at the property
  • Inability to use backyard without smelling weed
  • Fear of going out with children / grandchildren

“It’s not what we used to have in Miami Springs” said one concerned resident.

“The reason we moved to Miami Springs because it was a safe place…I’m afraid everytime I go in my pool (with his granddaughters)…It’s not safe to be out there anymore.  It used to be a nice nice neighborhood.  It’s not anymore.” said another neighbor.

These neighbors are speaking up after a woman was allegedly sexually assaulted at a short term rental located on the 900 block of Dove Avenue.

Police Investigating Alleged Sexual Assault in Bird Section

The State of Florida allows home owners to use their home as a short term rental.

Back in 2020, the City Council added some rules for short term rentals, but they can’t outright ban the activity.

City Council Takes on Short Term Rentals

However, the City administration is looking at what additional action they can take to police the behavior at these short term rentals.

My heart breaks for these residents.  Can you imagine living in your peaceful Miami Springs home for decades, only to have the house next to yours converted into a weekend party palace with loud music, weed, and provocative behavior?

For now, the city is attempting to strengthen its rules.  For the residents, we recommend using the power of video.  Record the bad behavior and share it with us.  The reports and criminal allegations are already bad.  But video evidence is just far more effective at driving the point.
