According to CBS 4 Miami, the nasty car accident that happened this morning at NW 36th Street and NW 66th Avenue in Virginia Gardens, Florida, has left one person dead with another transported to a local hospital.

Stolen Car Leads to Fatal Accident

According to the report, the Miami Springs Police Department attempted to pull over a vehicle that was allegedly stolen.  The vehicle had two occupants:  the driver and a passenger.

When Miami Springs Police attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect driving the alleged stolen vehicle fled west on NW 36th Street towards Virginia Gardens.

The CBS 4 report alleges that the suspect lost control of the vehicle and struck a utility pole.  The driver of the alleged stolen vehicle was pronounced dead.  The passenger was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

One witness described the scene as “horrific…totally mangled and destroyed vehicle…”

As is true with fatal crashes in our community, Miami-Dade Traffic Homicide has taken over as the lead investigative body to officially determine what happened.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the driver.  Even if it turns out to be true that the driver had stolen the vehicle, no family wants to see this happen to them.

Fortunately, it didn’t turn into an even worse tragedy where the vehicle strikes and kills an innocent person in another vehicle or pedestrian.

Be careful out there.
