Miami Springs Police were able to identify a stolen vehicle during afternoon rush hour traffic on Monday, October 4, 2021, on 36th Street near Curtiss Parkway. According to police the vehicle had been reported stolen by the Miami Shores Police Department back on September 17, 2021. MSPD officers conducted a felony traffic stop of the vehicle and detained the the driver and a passenger.
Police allege the driver of the stolen vehicle did not provide a driver’s license and used a fake name. However, using digital fingerprinting, the Police were able to ascertain the identity of the driver as 33 year old Fernando Garcia. The records check also revealed that Garcia’s driver’s license had expired 10 years prior. Prior to that, Garcia had his license suspended 18 times.
Miami Springs Police claim that Garcia was then read his rights at which point he refused to respond to further questions.
Police then searched the vehicle and reportedly found a machete on the driver side door panel. Having a machete in a car is not in itself illegal, but it is illegal for a convicted felon to be in possession of a weapon. According to police, Garcia has had multiple felony convictions.
Fernando Garcia was charged with:
- Possession of a Weapon by a Convicted Felon
- Grand theft 3rd Degree – Vehicle
- Giving a false name after arrest
- Driving with a suspended license
- Driving with a license that’s been expired over 6 months
BRIANNA MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ
The passenger of the stolen vehicle was identified by Miami Springs Police as Brianna Michelle Rodriguez. The 24 year old female was found to have two outstanding warrants for probation violations. Police say a search of her purse revealed two baggies suspected of containing meth (methamphetamines). Police also found drug paraphernalia in the form of a glass smoking pipe.
Brianna Rodriguez was charged for:
- Two outstanding warrants for probation violations
- Possession of a controlled substance (meth)
- Possession of drug paraphernalia
