According to published reports by CBS Miami, the suspect who was fleeing police after a hit and run accident by Dadeland Mall, was shot dead by police in Miami Springs.
According to the article by Gaby Fleischman, a Kia was involved in a hit and run accident in Pinecrest early this afternoon. Police chased the suspect north on the Palmetto until at some point the suspect exited the 826 and headed east towards Miami Springs.
According to the article, the suspect stopped at the intersection of Oakwood and De Leon Drive in Miami Springs. Police lost the suspect and set a perimeter. This included a lockdown of both Miami Springs Middle School and AIE Charter School (on the same campus).
The police finally caught up with the suspect where a struggle ensued. During the struggle with one of the police officers, a Miami-Dade Police officer shot and killed the suspect.
