The Miami Springs Tennis Courts will soon be under new management. At Monday’s Miami Springs City Council Meeting, the City Council selected Valiente Tennis Academy to take over the Miami Springs Tennis Courts and Pickleball facilities.
Miami Springs Councilman Walter Fajet recused himself for the vote to avoid any hint of a conflict of interest. He’s the principal at AIE Charter School and one of the candidates of the candidates to take over the facility (Brad Mixson) is the tennis coach at his school. That left just 4 members on Council to decide the fate of the tennis court management.
Ultimately, Valiente was selected by a 3 to 1 vote:
- Councilman Santin: Yes
- Councilwoman Bravo: Yes
- Councilman Vazquez: Yes
- Mayor Mitchell: No
Leading up to the vote, there had been a lot of support for Brad Mixson by locals. On the other hand, there was also a call by some for new management. In this case, some folks will not be happy, while others are satisfied with a change.
Ultimately, for the benefit of the entire community, we wish Valiente the best in continuing the legacy of family friendly tennis within our beautiful Miami Springs community.
