Every storm teaches us something different. Helene taught us about the size of the windfield. While Helene was well in the Gulf of Mexico on the other side of Florida, Miami Springs still received Tropical Storm force wind gusts.
The good news is that the Tropical Storm Warning was lifted as of 5am this morning. Miami Springs did feel the impact with some intermittent power outages being reported by Miami Springs residents, but by in large everyone had power restored. That’s important as it allows FPL crews to divert resources from South Florida towards the areas most impacted by the storm.
There were a few small tree limbs and lots of leaves and tree debris, but nothing significant in terms of damage.
However, we will see the impact from this storm in the form of higher insurance rates. As day breaks, we’ll get a better picture of the damage Helene has caused from the storm surge and high winds.
We dodged a major bullet with Helene. As October approaches it’s a reminder that Hurricane season extends into November. Stay vigilant and stay prepared.
