Miami Springs City Manager J.C. Jimenez provided an update on the garbage truck fire that occurred on Saturday at Miami Springs Public Works. An old garbage truck in question apparently had an electrical fire that escalated and destroyed the truck in its entirety. Unfortunately, the fire also destroyed a crane truck parked next to it.

The heat from the fire caused some minor damage on other public works vehicles such as a mirror and tires. The city administration is working with the insurance company to resolve the matter to get replacement trucks.

Mayor Walter Fajet asked “Residents will want to know if you expect any delays in service of any type?”

The City Manager explained that there won’t be any delays in service. It just so happens we have new trucks in service and therefore this will not cause any delays.

Councilman Fabian-Crespo asked “Was there any damage to the building next door?”
Jimenez explained that there was no damage to any building. Jimenez also complimented the public works staff for the great cleanup job they did that same day after Miami-Dade Fire Rescue had put out the fires.
