Wrong way wrecks are among the most dangerous accidents on the road. Why? Because it adds the speed and energy of the two vehicles. Two cars each doing 30 MPH in a head on collision becomes a 60 MPH collision. Furthermore, the speed of oncoming car reduces a driver’s reaction time. Bottom line: You never want to see a vehicle being driven against traffic in your direction.
Unfortunately, it continues to be a thing here in Miami Springs. Specifically on Curtiss Parkway. Recently, a member of the Miami Springs Community Group on Facebook shared the following video showing a small Mercedes Benz navigating the Miami Springs Circle in the opposite direction. Fortunately, the driver of the Mercedes appears to finally realize the predicament they’re in and comes to a complete stop while other vehicles drive by.
Earlier this month, we shared a similar video of a car attempting to go the opposite way on the incoming bridge on Curtiss Parkway.
In the most charitable terms possible, we are driving with some people who lose their ability to comprehend road signs, get nervous, and do stupid things. Others may be more cynical and claim that we drive with a bunch of idiots on the road. Either way, the point is clear. Wear your seat belts. Drive carefully. Drive defensively. Be aware of what you need to do AND also aware of the mistakes other drivers may be making.
