10:45 am update: The City of Miami Springs issued the following statement:

Shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday, May 17th, 2020 a pizza delivery person had pulled over on the side of the road in the 100 block of South Royal Poinciana Blvd. They exited their vehicle to check on an order. The victim advised they were approached by a subject, which they described as a black male,  who pointed a gun at them. A struggle ensued and the subject’s gun went off. The victim also advised at some point they were pistol – whipped by the subject. The victim was able to return to their vehicle and leave the area. The victim then pulled over in the 4800 block of N.W. 36 Street after they noticed blood coming from their arm and called 911.

Within a very brief time, prior to the call  being dispatched over Miami-Dade Police radio frequency, a Miami Springs Police Officer advised he saw three males running in the area of the 100 block of South Royal Poinciana Blvd. Two of the males fled into Hialeah and the third continued running in Miami Springs.  A perimeter was set-up with the assistance of Medley Police, Virginia Gardens Police and Miami-Dade County Police.

After several hours the perimeter was broken down and no subject(s)  were arrested at that time.

Approximately, fifteen minutes later a resident called M.S.P.D. advising their security camera was alerting to motion and the family dogs were barking. Police were immediately in the area and observed a male running. A brief foot chase ensued and the male was located.  The subject was later arrested for possession of narcotics.

Police do not believe at this time the two incidents are related. The investigation is ongoing

9:10 am update:  MSPD has given a follow up that contradicts an earlier report we received from the MSPD Dispatcher.  Apparently no suspects have been apprehended related to the shooting last night.  The victim is reported to be in good shape “as bullet only grazed their arm.”

Miami Springs Police along with Miami-Dade Police and Virginia Gardens Police were at multiple areas of Miami Springs Sunday night after what the City of Miami Springs Police Department described as a robbery / shooting incident.  As of this time, police are still searching for 3 armed suspects described as black males.  Police are asking residents of Miami Springs to stay inside.  Keep doors and windows locked.

PAPA JOHNS DELIVERY TRUCK

There are two active police scenes.  One appears to be the initial crime scene where a white Ford F-150 Supercab with a Papa John’s Pizza Delivery sign on the top was located.  The pickup truck can be seen with a large visible hole, possibly a bullet hole, and red stain that appears to be blood.  This scene was just outside the Subways / Days Inn located at 4767 NW 36th Street.  The incident started Sunday night, May 17th.

You can see in the photo above what appears to be a gunshot hole on the left side of the driver door.

There is also a noticeable red line that appears to be blood.

Miami Springs Police were on the scene keeping the perimeter closed.

As you can see below, local news media was also at the location to cover the story.

SEARCH FOR SUSPECTS

Miami Springs, VG, and Miami-Dade Police had blocked off portions of Miami Springs from Hook Square and South Royal Poinciana to Morningside on the north end.  Cops were up and down each intersection all the way to Eastward Drive.  Then from Minola to South Drive.

If you have any information that could help police, call the Miami Springs Police Department at 305.888.9711.
