At Monday’s Miami Springs City Council Meeting, Vice Mayor Jacky Bravo suggested the addition of new outdoor recreational facilities such as outdoor volleyball and basketball courts.  She referenced her recent visit to Kennedy Park in the Grove and how busy it was with so many activities at the park.

We applaud Vice Mayor Bravo’s push for the outdoor facilities.  It adds much needed access to facilities that are often times unavailable at the Rec Center due to scheduling.

For decades, we took the facilities available at local public schools for granted.  Growing up in Springs, i remember playing several basketball games on weekends at Miami Springs Senior High and even at Springview Elementary.  But virtually all of these schools have been fortified and locked down.  You can’t just walk into a school playground today the same way we did as kids.  So these school facilities that go unused on nights and weekends are no longer accessible.

Bravo’s push for adding amenities like beach volleyball courts and/or basketball courts encourages the athletic and healthy lifestyle and increases access to residents.   This adds to the benefits of living in Miami Springs.  Again, we support this type of effort as it adds value to Miami Springs residents and the family friendly, Country Club lifestyle we call Miami Springs.

  1. This is a city that has fenced up Stafford park an Prince field making them unavailable to your regular citizens. The only real “public” unfenced-up up park left is Peavy-Dove and that one is often unavailable because of baseball little league. My soccer group, many such as I, citizens of Miami Springs have resigned to play in a Hialeah park. Here is an idea for encouraging more outdoor activities and a health life style; get rid of the fences in your parks and make them really public once again!!!
