Miami Springs is blessed with wonderful people who care and love our community.  Case in point is a story posted to the Miami Springs Community Group by Simone Abud.

It started with a frantic call for help.  Abud posted online:  “I am at the Curtiss Mansion and a mama duck and 1 baby are desperately crying as all the other babies fell in the rain drain thing. Who can I call for help? I called the Fire dept, they will not come.  I’m taking my dog home and bring my pool net and will try to remove the lid. Anyone willing and able to help, please come.”

Simone Abud then updated the post as follows:  “Update. We got about 20 tiny babies out! But the last one is stuck somewhere. We can hear him but not see him. At this point we think the only way is if someone dives in…”

In the final update, Simone stated:  “Update: I am very grateful to everyone who showed up to help!  We saved about 20 babies but the last one.  We did our best. After a while we didn’t hear him anymore.  I’ll go back in a little while and see if I can hear or see him and if he is out I’ll scoop him up.”

What a great community!  Not only for Simone Abud’s determination to save the ducklings, but also the community that responded quickly to help and assist Abud in saving the ducklings.

Lions Club President, Elizabeth Fisher added the following:  “I love this community… When I got there, there were about eight people on site already. The last baby duck dove down and was heard behind some type of metal enclosure that goes about 8 inches below the water. We couldn’t hear him at all. We waited about 30 minutes. I checked the multiple sewer drains on both sides of this one several times and he had not come out anywhere we could see. Fortunately 19 were pulled out by net earlier, great job Simone and community. Love Miami Springs.”

We want to thank all the unsung everyday heroes for doing their part.

For those little ducklings, these residents were angels who saved their lives.

God bless you all and God bless our beautiful Miami Springs community.
