WPLG Local 10 is reporting on the arrest of a driver who allegedly left the scene of an accident in Miami Springs that caused serious bodily harm.
According to the report, a Miami Springs Police Officer was responding to a separate incident when he noticed a man “writhing in pain on the ground” in the area of the 500 block of East Drive, near the Miami Springs Historical Society Museum at Stafford Park.
The victim claims to have seen a Ford F-150 approaching the victim at a “high rate of speed” before the truck hit the victim and crushed the victim’s leg.
Springs PD subsequently issued a BOLO (Be On the Look Out) for the pickup truck according to the report. That’s when Hialeah Police responded after apparently pulling over the driver of an F-150 on East 23rd Street after allegedly “striking two vehicles and fleeing the scene.”
The driver of the pickup was identified as Elkis Rivero.

He was charged with:
- Leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury
- Driving with a suspended driver’s license
- Driving with an expired license greater than 6 months
In addition Rivero has two warrants according to Miami-Dade’s Inmate records.
Folks, be careful when you’re driving out there. Make sure you have enough insurance to cover for a hit and run driver and/or a driver without insurance. And if you get hurt in an accident, make sure to call Concepcion Law out of Miami Springs.
